Brief Summary Of Bandipur

Bandipur is a small and gorgeous town situated on a hill in the Tanahu district of Gandaki province in Nepal. It is a hill station that stands at an elevation of 1,080 meters above sea level on the Mahabharat range and around 700 meters above the Marsyangdi River. It is 80 kilometers east of Pokhara and 143 kilometers west of Kathmandu.

In terms of Bandipur's history, after Prithivi Narayan Shah invaded the Kathmandu Valley in 1768, the Newari people of Bhaktapur established it as a central point for trade. This is the reason Bandipur looks more like Kathmandu Valley, like a mirror reflection. They chose this place due to its malaria-free environment, making it a significant stop along the India-Tibet trade route.

Bandipur has a majority of the Newar community, which does business in various sectors, such as hotels and clothing. On the other hand, the hillside is inhabited by Gurung and Magar communities, which are mainly involved in agriculture.

The main attraction of Bandipur is the central market area, which is lined with traditional Newari houses and shops selling everything from handicrafts to souvenirs. In addition, there are hills best for hiking that lead you to traditional villages and green forests.

Bandipur has Asia’s second-largest and Nepal’s largest cave, Siddha Gufa in Tundikhel. Visitors can enjoy the 360-degree view of the town from Thani Mai Temple at the top of the hill.

Currently, Bandipur Cable Car & Tourism Ltd. is constructing a cable car and Queen Tower to attract more tourists to the town. The work is almost done, but a few things remain to be completed, which will be done soon. Upon completion, visitors will be able to enjoy a cable car ride from the lower part of the town to the Queen Tower Hotel in Upper Station.

The company is expecting to have 500 passengers per hour from various locations throughout Bandipur. However, the opening date of the cable car is not fixed yet.

At the same time, Bandipur municipality is constructing the Thani Mai-Mukundeshwori wall, which is currently under construction. It will give tourists a sense of the Great Wall of China, which is why locals have begun calling it a Mini-Great Wall.
